Are Dimmer Lights Just A Gimmick?

Dimmer lights have been used for many reasons in homes, whether it is to create atmosphere and mood or simply to give you more options as to how a house is lit. But are these dimmer switches just gimmicks or do they actually make a significant difference to a house?
Well, first of all it hugely depends on what room they are being used for and what your own personal preferences are. Either way, being able to dim your lights does carry one great benefit in that if you choose the right bulbs and the right dimmer system, you will be able to use much less energy, saving yourself money and cutting your carbon footprint down in the process.
In certain rooms, dimmer switchers are a great addition. Using them can instantly transform a room. Whilst getting great light fittings will create a wonderful atmosphere for a room, being able to change the level of lighting means that the same room can suddenly be used for a great party or for a cosy and romantic night in.
If you are someone who has certain uses for different rooms and very rarely changes this routine then simple addition of smaller lights may be enough but for those who want total control over the ambience of any room, then the addition of dimmers gives you a whole lot more freedom.
Obviously places such as bathrooms or kitchens will probably not need them, but pretty much any other room can benefit immensely from the potential they offer.
